Base Building Discussion

Dear Erisians,

August has arrived, and most of Europe has gone on vacation. Not us though, we’re continuing to push forward and hitting new milestones along the way.

The latest and most important feature we’ve been working on is the building system, and I am happy to report that it is working and you can now carve out your very own home on the island of Red Caye.

How does the building system work? Where can I buy my house?

For now, the building system is quite simple, accumulate 100 Gold, then talk to the Innkeeper. You will be able to purchase a “Cottage Blueprint”. Double clicking on the blueprint in your inventory will bring up a placement UI, which you can use to preview how your building will look like before placing it in the world.

Note that you cannot build inside the starting town and the building cannot be colliding with objects in the world, so try to build someplace empty and flat for best results. You can also rotate the building preview by pressing “V” on your keyboard.

What’s the future plans for the building system?

We plan to add more buildings of course, but the next feature we will be working on is the ability to add NPCs into your buildings. These NPCs will be able to provide a variety of services that are unavailable elsewhere in the game - this is to reinforce the idea of the game being player (not developer) driven.

Any other new changes in this version?

Yes, you will notice graphical improvements as we take advantage of the new capabilities of the upgraded game engine.

With regards to bugfixes, we’ve fixed the very annoying issues with line of sight detection making combat feel buggy and broken. Additionally, the bug effecting the ability to loot monsters after clicking on something else before looting has been fixed. Finally, we fixed a bug that occurred when removing points from a statistic during character creation - you should no longer be able to remove points if those points are required to take a specific trait.

Special thanks to @Troy , @ginny , @IvanZephyr and @AquaClick for the feedback and bug reports, it’s much appreciated. Hopefully this new version helps address some of issues you have raised.

I find his update cool, but I did get stuck under the cottage as the time it took to spawn kinda delayed when I was walking.

Also, the first blueprint that I bought didn’t place and the thing kind of just vanished in my inventory, so I bought a new one. I’m not sure if it’s because I kind of flicked my camera and I put it somewhere far away or something, but maybe add a limit to how far you can place it incase there isn’t one.

Thanks for the feedback here, yes, right now just clicking on the blueprint in your inventory removes it even without successfully placing the building in the world - this will be fixed in the next version.

With regards to getting stuck, I have teleported you back to spawn, however, I’ll have to look into how to solve this issue going forward. I think we’ll need to make a /stuck command or just allow players to kill themselves to respawn.

you guys plan to give us ability to make our own cities and to siege, but wont you run out of space really easily that way?? like the map is limited and its mostly mountains, wont it get too cramped??? also old players get too much of an advantage that way right??

We are planning on adding two entire continents, so there should be a lot of space eventually, but yes the starting island is likely too small to build entire cities on. It’s really just to test the building mechanic for now.
